In an arranged marriage you have a few conversations to learn what dating couples learn over months. The right questions make those conversations count. Ask them across two or three meetings, not all at once — and answer them yourself too.
How to use this list
- Start light (first meeting), go deeper later.
- Listen more than you ask. Follow-ups matter more than the next question.
- Notice how someone answers, not only what they say.
Getting to know each other (first meeting)
- What does a normal weekday look like for you?
- How do you like to spend Sundays?
- What are you most proud of so far?
- Who are you closest to in your family?
- What made you say yes to meeting?
- What do your friends tease you about?
- Which place have you enjoyed visiting the most?
- What kind of food do you enjoy — and can you cook?
Values and personality
- What does a good marriage look like to you?
- How do you handle anger or a bad day?
- How do you make big decisions?

- How tidy are you, honestly?
- How do you like to celebrate festivals?
Past and health
- Have you been in a serious relationship or engagement before?
- Is there any health condition I should know about?
- Is there anything about you that people usually misunderstand?
The future together

- How do you imagine our first year of marriage?
- What could make you unhappy in a marriage?
- How would you support me if I wanted to change careers?
- What would you want me to never take for granted?

- Is there anything you'd like our families to know before we decide?
Questions to avoid early
Salary in the first meeting, questions about "what your family will give", and anything about looks. Save money questions for later meetings and keep them about how you'll live, not what you'll receive.
